In March 2016, Alby Rondina and ProKite started their own kiteboarding school down in Sicily. The school is located at the flat water lagoon Lo Stagnone. The spot is perfect for everybody who wants to learn kitesurfing and for professionals who are interested in practicing new tricks.

For you, we asked Alby about everything you need to know. He gave us some insights, told us the facts about the spot and of course about other activities you can do in Sicily.

InspiredBySports: Alby, why’d you open up a kitesurfing school in Sicily?

Alby: “Well it is actually both, a secret dream and the combination of events. I was friends with Riki, owner of ProKite Brasil, for many years and we always wanted to open a station somewhere closer to Europe. To be really able to scale up and bring kiteboarding to as many people possible in the best place. Then we stumbled upon the possibility to partner up with a hotel complex here at Lo Stagnone. Lo Stagnone developed quite a lot in the past years, but it still lacked infrastructure and some big center that would rise its popularity… So long story short, here we are with ProKite Alby Rondina :)

InspiredBySports: Can you tell us about the greatest advantages of the spot?

Alby: Of course, I listed 5 major advantages for you:

Huge, vast, spacious flat and shallow water lagoon with a soft, safe ground.
Perfect flat water conditions for kiting, ultimate easy & safe conditions for beginners.
Connection to Europe – 5km away from Trapani airport, 100km from Palermo airport.

STATEMENT

After 12 years of competing, travelling and enjoying life with kiteboarding, I felt the urge to give something back, share this passion with other people. I had this dream for some time now but waited for the perfect opportunity, where I was 100% sure that what I will deliver to my customers will be the best possible and convenient conditions. And the bonus of being in my home country was also a big selling point.

JOURNEY

Travelling to the kiteboarding school is very easy! Trapani Airport is 5km away, 10min by car and Ryanair as well as other companies fly there from all around Europe.

ACCOMMODATION

The best thing: You can stay at the “ProKite Alby Rondina complex”. They have two accomodation options directly at the beach – hotel rooms for single, double or triple beds or villas for groups of 6 people. Check their website for more information.

“We have bikes, SUPs, slacklines, a winch for wakeboarding, cruises to Favignana Island, trips to Marsala or Trapani with Italian food or nightlife. Also nearby carribean looking beach San Teodoro.” – so Alby
