Even Perfect Wind Won’t Make the Perfect-Move

3 min read
As in every good story, the Perfect-Move continues! It takes plenty of experience to call the perfect trick or the perfect spot your own – that’s clear. But what does a young, up-and-coming windsurf pro think? Marco Lufen knows his stuff and can do an enormous amount for his age. So it makes sense that he’ll definitely be on board for the next Mercedes-Benz Perfect-Move trip and tells us his story here.
Series Recap
Every windsurfer, whether pro or leisure rider, has one: the perfect move. Classic manoeuvres, a trick or jump in a certain style – anything can be your perfect move!
As part of a Mercedes-Benz promo tour at five locations, InspiredBySports went in search of the Perfect-Move in 2016 together with German windsurf legend Bernd Flessner as well as the two JP pros Marco Lufen and Leon Jamaer.
Pretty much the first thing that came to mind about the Perfect-Move was which trick from all my time on the water could be saved as perfect. The question of whether it even exists – the perfect manoeuvre, the perfect trick, the perfect spot – can be answered fairly clearly in my opinion: Hell yeah! And how! Just imagine windsurfing in boardshorts with Caribbean-blue water and a perfect force 5.
The red fireball drops below the horizon and the atmosphere on the water is unbeatable – anyone who has ever experienced a sundowner knows that. At the same moment a perfect wave builds, you gun full throttle towards it and catapult yourself into the air while gazing at the red fireball. Just imagine this scenario…
What, you don’t know what that feels like?
I think the idea of the Perfect-Move is genuinely cool all by itself and every windsurfer can imagine what feeling we’re talking about. Of course you need a bit of time until you’re really steady on the board, but once the feeling has grabbed you, you won’t shake it off easily. The first time planing, the first power gybe, the first waterstart, the first frontloop: in my opinion all these manoeuvres can be put in the “Perfect Move” category. What really belongs to it and makes it something truly special are: the spot, the light, the vibe on the water, as well as the friends you share your impressions with.
My absolute favourite trick is the Pasko, a double horizontal aerial rotation. This manoeuvre combined with the conditions described above? My Perfect-Move, no doubt!

This year I’m bringing the Perfect-Move to the North Sea
The Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2016 (WSWC) offers a fantastic opportunity to put down a perfect run and wind up the lads from the competition a bit. The WSWC is of course a very special World Cup this year. It has been around for over 25 years and for all German riders, late September to mid-October in home waters is something really special.
I reckon I can show my Perfect-Move on Sylt. I’ve been training a lot on the North Sea and Baltic lately to get used to the “warm” water temperatures. So far it looks really good and I can be pleased with my preparations. I hope the hard work pays off in the contest!
“It hardly gets any better for a windsurfer! Once you’ve experienced it, you want it again and again: the Perfect-Move!”– Marco Lufen, JP pro and Perfect-Move ambassador
