Fitness & Health – we can´t even keep track of how many tech companies are flooding the market with even more technical gadgets, more innovation and more functions that are nice to have, but we only use three of them. Withings Inspire health, a Nokia subsidiary, listened closely to what the sports world had to say and released a watch right now that is just perfect – with key functions that we really need doing fitness.

PRODUCT & USAGE

The IFA in Berlin, one of the largest technology and industrial exhibitions in Europe, surprises its visitors every year. It is usually filled with new technical developments and opportunities that will make the world better. We will see exactly the same again this year until the 7th of September: every product is getting better and more functional every year. Not bad at all and no doubt about it, but do we really need all these gadgets while working out?

Whitings Inspire health says “Yes” and “No”. The company managed to build a name within the industry with a large portfolio of fitness watches and trackers that are able to give satisfaction to the customer and a battery of functions to track their workouts, modify them and share them. The latest member of the Withings family is different. It is an analog watch which is tracking your activities and heart rate, and it is connected to your smartphone to stay up to date with incoming messages and emails. The one thing that makes this watch unique besides the fact that the guys at Withings keeping it simple, is the amazingly long battery duration. The Steel HR is a winner, that´s for sure.

Keeping it classy

The Steel HR watch can be purchased in two different styles: A classy one in a french design, stainless steel, chromed hands and comfortable silicon wristband. You can choose between two sizes: 36mm and 40mm. The standard version is available in black and white and is delivered with a 36mm diameter clock-face and a 18mm wide wristband. The second version is a 40mm diameter all-black with a 20mm wide wristband.

The variety of tracked data and the unbeatable battery running time makes the Steel HR to one of its kind.

Getting back to the technical side of life

The fitness watch has all the relevant functions an athlete needs, but looks surprisingly attractive when you wear it not doing sports. It tracks and monitors your heart rate during your workouts, your average heart rate during daily activities and your pulse at rest as well as keeping you updated via the display about your health status and smartphone notifications. The personal goal activity-wise for a day (10.000 steps) can be seen within the Withings Health Mate App, available for iOS and Android, and gives you a detailed but overseeable look of your results.

The dynamic digital display at the top of the watch is held in a simple and not too fancy way – which by the way was a big mistake of a lot of companies in the Fitness watch industry. The user can choose whether the watch should show your already burned calories, your heart rate, your daily distance so far or just the classical functions such as email, calendar or messages that come in very handy of course.

As mentioned earlier, the Withings Steel HR is a long-distance runner. The manufacturer promises up to 25 days, which is the best value in battery duration time on the market so far. After you have reached the 25 days , the watch switches in a smart energy saving mode that guarantees another additional 20 (!) days battery time. This mode keeps tracking your running and swimming activities.

The heart rate is a key indicator for a lot of positive or negative changes within our body. This is why every fitness watch should have this function. The new Withings watch measures your pulse via photoplethysmographic procedure and gives you a color signal through LED lights if the amount of blood in your wrist is changing. Whether you are a pro athlete or just trying to loose some weight, anything is adjustable with a button press on the watch. Another great fact is the information about your sleeping habits. The watch tracks your sleeping phases and lets you optimize your relaxation times to have more power throughout the day.

How much is it and when is it in stores?

Both versions of the new Steel HR, the 36mm in black or white and the one with 40mm in black, are available in the Withings online store starting this October. The smaller, less expensive version can be purchased at a prize of 189,95 € and the second version is available at a buying prize of 199,95 €. After the start online, both watches will be available in the retail trade.
