Professional golfer Lexi Thompson had to go underwater for her sponsor Red Bull. To recreate the iconic Muhammad Ali photo from the Life Magazine, she had to spend seven hours in a pool.Lexi Thompson had to hopp into a pool for her Red Bull photo shooting. Sounds like fun, but posing under the water isn’t as easy as it seems. The first problem was that the pool was very cloudy, so Al Bello, the photographer, couldn’t take any pictures. Thank god they could use the pool of another hotel, so they could drag the whole set from one pool to the other. The water there was crystal clear and Lexi and the team could finally start the shooting. The only challenge then was that there were hotel guests in the pool who looked quite irritated at Lexi when she jumped in the pool – with her golf outfit on and holding a golf club in her hands. Holding breath and keeping the eyes open under water is really hard. You have to breath out in a special way so you can let yourself sink on the ground. Besides that, it is really difficult to find the perfect timing, because the water should be as still as possible while Lexi had to find the right pose. Therefore. Lexi had her hair tied back and her clothes were tight-fitting.

Lexi described the shooting as “pretty intense”, but she is really proud she was able to recreate a picture of such a big idol as Muhammad Ali, because he is an important role model for many athletes – including Lexi. Also, Al Bello was really happy and confident with the results.
