KSWC: From the Northsea to the Baltic Sea
Goodbye Northern Sea. Hello Baltic. The kitesurf world cup, the KSWC, is switching its location and is now held on Fehmarn. What advantages the spot-change has for all the riders, as well as the visitors you’ll read here.
Loud knocking on your window, fines and traffic jams on the access road was so 2015. On Fehmarn you can wake up to the sounds of the ocean.
Some of the biggest issues last year – the parking situation and accommodations close to the event – aren’t going to be a big problem at the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup on Fehmarn this year. In walking distance of the Event-area, there are campgrounds, where all visitors can camp in bullies, mobile homes or tents from the 26th of August, until the 4th of September. An adequate ambiente for the visitors of the biggest kitesurf event in the world.
And even the way from the campgrounds to the actual event location, as well as from there to the contest-area don’t take more than 15 minutes.
Island of the sun
The weather can’t be planned, else there would be wind, sun and wind again!
But Fehmarn is one of the regions with the most sun in Germany with 2200 hours of sun per year, promising around seven hours daily, even at the end of August. Who wants to be a part of the first kitesurf world cup on Fehmarn, definitely shouldn’t forget their sunglasses.
The IBS-Team is very excited for a healthy tan and enough vitamin D as a side effect of ten days of elite sports.
One island and many spot-possibilities
Especially with all nature sports like kitesurfing, where the athletes depend on Petrus’ grace, flexibility (concerning the direction of the wind) is important. Fehmarn has been a great choice so far. The different spots around the island open up the possibility, to react to possible changes of the direction of the wind immediately and to always use the best spot.
The conditions are ideal at a eastern- to southwestern winddirection on the Baltic, while winds coming from the west up until the northeast can be used on the “Burger Binnensee” within the marina and the protected area.
