St. Peter Ording – Kitesurfing in august

SPOTLIGHT

Today’s spotlight:  home kitespot of our expert Hannes Beierlein in St. Peter Ording in august. Sankt Peter is a spot that offers a lot of space,  even during the kitesurf world cup in august, if you are willing to walk a bit. During august the wind is not very constant, but always good for an inspired session. The water is most of the time very choppy. Only in priels, during ebb or flood, or when the wind blows from the right directions, the spot provides best freestyle conditions for ambitious kitesurfers to learn new tricks. The decision for the right spot should be made from the wind direction. The wonderful spacious beach in combination with its versatile conditions is always special for me.

JOURNEY

There’s only “one” way to travel to St. Peter Ording – by car. Of cause there’s also a rail station., but the different beach sections and accomondations a easier reached by car.

ACCOMMODATION

I prefer accomodations a little bit outside the city, because the walk over the beach is too far for me, I go there by car. There are also many camping sites around SPO. The small cottages are nice established and very comfortable.

ALTERNATIVES

Eiderstedt, in the north of germany, offers a very nice golf course on windless days. You can play Golf there with boardshorts and without having a golf licence (“Platzreife”). If you want to make party – St Peter Ording is not very attractive beside the World Cup event. Otherwise the beaches provides a lot of possibilities and space to play beach volleyball or other sports.
