Ice hotel Sweden: The coldest place to stay in the world?

/NEWS

Tired of sun, beach and the sea? While most of us usually spend some days of vacation in the shiny and warming sun every year, some prefer to spend their time in a world of ice and snow. Convenient to the frosty season right now, I went ahead and had a look at the probably most world-famous ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi (Sweden).

The hotel in the Swedish Lapland is definitely a highlight! It is hardly imaginable that it is built entirely from ice. But it also entails a disadvantage: It melts! The hotel needs to be rebuilt each year and therefore it always looks different. Artists from all around the world submit their designs every year and hope that theirs will be selected for one of the 55 suites.

The ice hotel has now been existing for more than 27 years already, and there have never been were two identical rooms so far. The temperature in the hotel is around -10 ° C, so sleeping can be a bit extreme, but the hotel provides its guests with special sleeping bags that keep them warm.

Another highlight is the ice bar. Of course there are no usual glasses, but cups made of ice as it should be in a real ice hotel. With this breathtaking atmosphere between ice and shimmering light, it is definitely worth taking a drink here.

STATEMENT

Having summer, beach and the sea exchanged for winter, cold and ice is not everyone’s cup of tea. But for everyone who urgently needs a cool down in a fancy hotel, a trip to an ice hotel is a must! And one thing is certain – the beer will not get warm there.
