The ISPO Award Winners 2019
Four days a year the ISPO in Munich presents the most important news, trends and backgrounds from sports and the sporting goods industry. Every year, the most impressive products of the sports industry are honoured with the ISPO Award. The 2019 winners have now been announced.
The ISPO Awards ceremony will take place on the first two days of ISPO Munich in the ISPO Brandnew Village on the stage in Hall B4. All products of the year as well as the Gold Winners of the official ISPO Munich exhibitors will be exhibited during the fair from 3rd to 6th February in the middle aisle of hall B1.
ISPO itself is far more than just an exhibition space for products – ISPO is the leading international platform for the entire sports business. Each year an independent international jury selects the winners in the five segments Health & Fitness, Outdoor, Snowsports, Team & Social Sports and Urban, who receive the established ISPO Award for outstanding sporting goods. The jury consisted of 43 experts from twelve nations, including specialist dealers, designers, marketing specialists, journalists, consumers and athletes. A separate Eco Responsibility jury also honours exceptionally sustainable innovations and achievements. With over hundreds of submissions, it is not easy to win , but some outstanding innovations were able to get the title ‘product of the year’.
At the ISPO Brandnew Awards 2019, also the start-up SNO-GO was successful and secured a spot in the finals among the large number of participants.
The Trends 2019
Trends can be seen above all in the digital networking of sports products, in the field of modern high-tech materials and in the sustainability of functional clothing and shoes. Among the products submitted are more and more intelligent sports equipment that collects, analyzes and processes training data. As in recent years, many brands are also focusing on sustainability.
All in all, there are significantly more brands that care about a sustainable production chain, recyclable materials and less use of plastics. Also new this year is that snowboards, skis and winter sports equipment for the ISPO Award were subjected to a practical check on the slopes for the first time.
The products of the year
In the five different areas of the sports industry, the most outstanding products were named “Product of the Year”. In the Health & Fitness category, the networked treadmill “Platinum Club Series”, from Life Fitness won the coveted title. Among other things, it not only synchronizes with the Apple Watch and streams Netflix, Spotify and Co – but with the Social Run App from Life Fitness, training on the treadmill even becomes a digital community event. The Outdoor- Winner is the most natural sleeping bag ever – “Biopod DownWool Nature” by Grüezi bag. From the packaging to the last button, the sleeping bag is made of 100 percent natural materials. Snowsports Winner: The full-featured, 3-layer ski jacket SOTA HS Hooded Jacket scores with revolutionary technology: The 4-Way Superstretch material made of coated knitted fabric and 3D surface is seamlessly processed and is thus highly breathable and at the same time hard-wearing.
The Ultimate iBall from SELECT – the world’s first intelligent handball – is the special winner in the Team & Social Sports category. The integrated KINEXON chip records information about ball speed, throw detection, throw position and the position of the ball in the goal in real time during the game. Live broadcasts give the viewer unprecedented insights into the game and a whole new way of getting close to the fans. Last but not least, there is the winner in the Urban segment: the completely biodegradable Sordo boot from outdoor specialist Berg Outdoor is made from Oak Leather bionature, Burel and an Apinat outsole. All materials are specially designed to ensure the shoe’s biodegradability. Under good environmental conditions, the shoe completely disintegrates within only six months.
