Taiba – A paradise for Kitesurfers
/NEWS
For those who don’t know me yet: I’m Mia Körkemeyer. For six years now, I have been traveling to Taiba, Brazil, each autumn. I learned my first jumps in those lagoons and had the first experiences with wave kiting there. The Brazilian spot is a dream for kitesurfers like me.

Taiba is an amazing spot which offers everything a kitesurfer needs. Apart from constant wind starting in the morning and dropping late in the afternoon, a great flat water lagoon and a few wave spots rideable at any tide, Brazil offers warm water and a lot of sun. The wind comes from the Southeast and is side-on-shore.
The lagoon is the place for practicing new freestyle and wakestyle tricks. All along the coast you can get nice waves. Although the waves break on the beach, they come clearly and have the perfect angle to the wind. There are some popular wave spots right in Taiba in front of the hotel Vila Marola and along the coast.
Coming from Germany the easiest way to get to Taiba is flying with Condor or TAP to Fortaleza. Taiba is located 75km north of Fortaleza. Either you get a rental car and drive the way by yourself or you can ask your accommodation for a transfer.
The taxi drivers usually do not know the way but you can show them how to get to Taiba. In Taiba you should have a rental car or a beach buggy anyway to get to the lagoon and the other spots.
We usually stay in the hotel Vila Marola. The hotel was completely renovated in 2016 and offers spacious double rooms and apartments. Breakfast is included while lunch and dinner are offered in the hotel’s beach bar and restaurant.
Alternatively, there is an apartment building close by. The apartments offer everything you need for a longer stay. There are many pousadas in Taiba town and closer to the lagoon.
Since Taiba is rather small it is easy to get in contact with everybody who is around. You see each other’s progress and get new ideas of what to try next. I enjoy doing downwind trios trying to catch the waves down to the next village Paracuru.
