Ryder Cup Surprise: American team takes trophy home again

It’s time to celebrate for the USA: The Ryder Cup is the most important tournament in golf sport worldwide. For the first time in years, the American team was able to take home the trophy – and by the way, they’ve found their new superstar.

It is the most important tournament a golf team can win: the Ryder Cup. After 8 years of bad luck, the American team finally managed to win back the oh-so-desired trophy at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. After the final matches, team captain Davis Love III was close to tears, and understandably proud of his teammates: “They did everything I wanted them to. They gave their hearts into the game. They worked hard, they fought hard.”, he explained afterwards.

But it should still be mentioned that the European team was a worthy opponent. During the foursome, a new dream team was formed: Rory “Rors” McIlroy and Rookie Thomas Pieters performed exceptionally well together – even though they had practiced with each other not even once before. The European team agrees on the fact that talented 24-years-old Pieters will sure have a great career ahead.

Not only the European, but also the American team has found their new superstar. 26-years-old Patrick Reed putted seemingly impossible balls, carried along his weakening teammate Jordan Spieth during a foursome and won the hearts of the crowd. In advance of the tournament, he pleaded not to be seated on the bench during a single match. So he wasn’t, and by winning the foursome together with Spieth, he ecceded all expectations.

Who still thinks that golf is a boring, bourgeois sport has not seen the most nerve-racking matches during Ryder Cup. Push aside those prejudices and enjoy this tournament where golf-history is made!
