“O’zockt is”: FIFA 17 gives gamers deep insight into the soul of a pro footballer

NEWS

As October approaches the whole world knows what people in Munich are most excited about: the launch of a new FIFA game. Oh, and Oktoberfest startet as well.

In customary manner EA Sports has invited journalists, YouTubers, bloggers and vloggers to the Isarpost in Munich to celebrate the launch of a brand-new FIFA 17. Fans from all over the world were able to watch the launch event via livestream when former pro footballer Ralph Gunesch (Mainz 05 and FC St. Pauli amongst others) and rapper MoTrip gave a first impression of the game.

Reactions were positive across the board, those of the invited celebrities as well as the other guest of the event. They all were excited to try out the game on numerous Xbox terminals that were set up all around the Isarpost location. While at this point last year players weren’t allowed to merely look angrily towards an attacking player in the box without provoking a penalty kick this year’s FIFA is already surprisingly free of bugs and frustrations – good news for the longevity of wireless controllers.

This year’s integration of the “Frostbite” graphics engine (known from the Battlefield and Need for Speed series) ensures a realistic football representation and as another first a completely new story mode “The Journey” has been introduced. In this brand-new mode you can follow the talented Alex Hunter’s journey from the local hard court to the world’s football elite – including hollywoodesque cut scenes!

While the story mode is a cool new feature to upgrade the single player mode, most gamers will prefer the grim fight against friends and colleagues or the online mode – in competition with the entire globe! In this case gamers will have to look into the beloved FIFA Ultimate Team mode where you can buy and sell players on a transfer market and compete online.

EA Sports took the opportunity to present the 1 on 1 mechanics in a tournament in which every guest of the launch event was able to take part – and I was to represent InspiredBySports. After two commanding 3:0 wins in the first and second round as well as two gripping 2:1 wins in the third and fourth round I surprisingly found myself to be in the final – did I mention I went to the Oktoberfest prior to the event?

Naturally my pixelated FC Bayern got their lederhosen jacked when German youth national player Timothy Tillman had a trouble-free 2:0 win against me using Manchester City – demonstrating there are limits to the accuracy and realism of FIFA 17. Well deservedly he won the Xbox S which EA Sports provided as a prize. Maybe he is the Alex Hunter of the analogues world?
