Mario Rodwald providing the best suggestions for the Kitesurf World Cup 2016
Kitesurf legend Mario Rodwald is finally back on track! After a knee injury, we are glad to welcome him again this summer at the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup on Fehmarn from the 26.08 – 24.09. 2016!
What we are really curious about is how does Marios preparation for the competition look like, what does he think of the spot Fehmarn and with what kind of insider-tips can he provide us concerning accommodation, alternatives and more.
With respect to the location, Mario Rodwald favours the change since he originates from the baltic sea and is familiar with all the secret hot spots. He is excited for a “come back” in his home town.
“From Kiel, where my parents live, the best spots are easy to reach. I really enjoy staying at home when I am busy preparing for a championship!” – so Mario.
Mario is in the middle of his preparations for the World Cup. During the last weeks, he obviously tried out some popular kite spots on Fehmarn. However, he had the opportunity to practice at many other impressing locations all around the world. Nevertheless, the kitesurf pro has recognized the importance of recuperation and relaxation exhausting kite sessions. During the World Cup in Fehmarn, he is going to stay in the new location “Bretterbude” in Heiligenhafen.
“The Kitesurf World Cup spreads over 10 days of continuous competitions, hence I need an accommodation away from all the hustle and bustle where I can relax and recover”.

JOURNEY
Whoever wants to be part of the World Cup, we recommend to travel by car. Although the island is not that big, 78 kilometres of coastline do not really stand for an enjoyable beach walk. It is also recommended to stay a few days longer and make it a short holiday trip, as the world cup takes place over 10 days and the region around Fehmarn offers enough entertainment, ranging from great relaxation possibilities to action activities.
ACCOMMODATION
Go skating in the lobby of the hotel, regenerate in the kneading-chamber and drink some beer in the alehouse – sounds crazy but that’s how it is!
Therefore Mario’s advice: “Follow my suggestions and book a room in the Bretterbude!”
Bretterbude – that how the new accommodation alternative situated in Heiligenhafen, near Fehmarn is called. There is something for everyone – having one or two beers, goe kiting or have a great skating session in the foyer of the hotel. Here you can easily and at low fare book a room and if you are fortune enough you can even win a weekend in one of the houses.
ALTERNATIVES
If you are somewhere nearby Fehmarn and Heiligenhafen, you should definitely visit the fishing harbour in Heiligenhafen. Here you will find high-quality fish fresh from the boat. And after a great lunch, with newly gained energy you can start a sailing session right away. Or alternative, check out the Kitespot in front of the Bretterbude – a true highlight, especially under north west wind conditions

Me, as a youngster from Kiel, am truly fascinated by the baltic sea and I am therefore particularly pleased with the location for the upcoming event. From Pelzerhaken, to Heiligenhafen up to Fehmarn – the entire region provides great kite spots for every possible wind direction. However, my favourite hotspot is still the “green brink” during east-north-east wind or “Wulfen” at south-east wind. But also the “Southbeach” can be a good place with some awesome waves during south-west wind directions.
