Kitesurfing in Saal
Kiting, even when the wind is turning: This is just possible at the unique kitespot of Saal at the Saaler Bodden.
The Kitespot at the Saaler Bodden is approximately located 30 kilometers at the north-east of Rostock and occurs to be the turbine of the spot in this surrounding. Especially western winds are strengthened through the thermals by sun. Saal works with nearly every wind directions because of the huge district. At southern winds there mere is hindered the start because oft he wind which strives over the land and and gets a bit bumpy due to a small forest. As we all learned, it isn’t advisable to go out on the water at offshore winds.
Directly at the spot there is a huge hayfield which is ideal for setup an release as well as for the start and landing. A big plus for the stuff care.
In High season there are a lot of people at Saal which you only recognize at the starting- and landing-zone. On the water there is enough space.
Additional informations:
- Parking space directly at the waterfront for €4 per day. For every additional water athlete who is sitting in the car, there are another €2 per day.
- Unfortunately, sleeping at the location isn’t allowed anymore.

- Catering is available. The local Kite-Schools are coming by double-decker buses and you can warmup with hot sausages and coffee.

On the left hand of the spot there is a small bay which offers perfect flat water and therefore promises best the best conditions for wakestyler.
Generally, you have tob e aware of swimming bottles and cans (yellow, white) because they highlight stones.
JOURNEY
Only 30 kilometers from Rostock don’t seem much at the first moment but on e few days those kilometers are getting longer. At one hand the thousands of speed limits are responsible. You should be aware oft hem to not be flashed. At the other hand, there often is a lot of traffic infront of Karl’s Strawberry farm. If you passed that you are following the B105 until Ribnitz-Damgarten. There you hace to turn left to Kückenshagen and follow the street until Saal where a small display shows you the way tot he watersports center. The last few meters you are driving on stepping stones besides some fields. From a distance you can already see the double-decker buses on the ceiling.
ACCOMMODATION
Directly at the spot you aren’t allowed to sleep anymore. In the directly neighbourhood there are a lot of camping areas, caravan spaces and appartments.
ALTERNATIVES
Canoe-, Bicycle- or Hiking tours. A worth seeing landscape. Karl’s Strawberry farm.
