From the 26th to the 28th of January 2018 the time has come again: The IKA Snowkite Worldcup is entering its tenth round. And the anniversary might be particularly exciting. Get more information about the event and the opportunity for participation!

The winter highlight at the end of January

At the end of January 2018, another winter sports highlight is coming: The Snowkite Worldcup of the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) takes place at Reschensee in South Tyrol. On three days athletes compete in different disciplines. On the 26th of January the Long Distance Race will take place, followed by Race and Freestyle (27th and 28th of January, possibly also at the same time). There are different categories such as men and women as well as skis and snowboards. Kites of all sizes are allowed.

It should be noted that only the discipline “Race” has World Cup level. The two other disciplines are not titled World Cup. In the freestyle area you can expect exciting tricks anyway: In 2017, the kite-riders astonished the audience with impressive tricks such as Slim Chance, Front Blind Mobe and Backmobe. After the thrilling competitions during the day, the evening is for celebrating all together in the Aprés Kite tent.

In wind and weather

Let’s just hope that the weather plays along. Of course, enough wind is obligatory. Moreover, especially the discipline freestyle requires enough snow. And fog could also be a problem: in 2017 some participants in the Long Distance Race gave up prematurely because of the difficult conditions. After the third round of the fastest rider, the discipline had to be stopped completely.

If you want to participate in one or more competitions, you have to register yourself. The registration fee for the Discipline Long Distance (1 day) is 45 €. The costs for registration in the discipline Race or Freestyle (2 days) are 85 €. Who wants to compete in Long Distance and one of the other disciplines (3 days) pays 120 €. Last year, more than 40 riders from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Spain participated. However, women were clearly underrepresented. So girls: Don´t hesitate to register!!
