Henrik Stenson again European Tour Golfer of the Year

/NEWS

It is indeed not easy to become the champion of the European Tour, one of the biggest international golf tournaments. Henrik Stenson, anyway, just managed to get this title for the second time in four years

Stenson can look back at a more than successful year 2016. Not only did he win the Harry-Vardon-Trophy, the Claret Jug and an Olympic silver medal in Rio, but now he was also named European Tour Golfer of the Year by a panel of golfing media members who voted for him unanimously.

Back in 2013, he won this title already for the first time. But he states although his consistency may have been a bit higher that year, he is sure that in the 2016 season, he delivered some excellent performances at key moments.

And we definitely cannot deny that. Golf enthusiasts will remember Stenson’s epic battle with Phil Mickelson at Royal Troon. In this duel, Stenson closed with an unbelievable total score of 20 under par 264, which means he broke the record low score of a Major Championship.

On top of that, the Swedish golfer performed stunningly well at this year’s Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National, for example by triumphing over Jordan Spieth with an impressive 3&2 singles victory.

Those are just a few of all the achievements he earned in the 2016 golf season. There were some other candidates that were worthy of the title European Tour Golfer of the Year. But in the end, Stenson still was the most outstanding player of this year, which is why the jury panel unanimously voted for him in the end.
