A few years ago I had my first kite sessions there and until today I consistently go there for a weekend trip from munich. Kitesurfing at the Garda Lake is not only that special because of its amazing scenery, I\u2019m convinced there\u2019re just a few kitespot in europe with such a high probabilty for constant wind and other benefits. The thermal lift between the alps an the \u201cPo\u201d-region is responsible for regular daily upcoming wind. In the morning the \u201cVento\u201d is strongly blowing from the north of the lake, in the afternoon we have a constantly but lighter wind from the south. Basically there are only two spots where you can start and land your kite from the lakeside – Campione and Navene. I recommend: Avoid these places and go out by boat with a kite school. The sheer rock walls near campione don\u2019t allow you to end your session easily. <\/span><\/p>\n

The kite season starts in may and ends in the beginning of october.<\/span><\/p>\n

The best is travelling by car. But there are also lifts from the south of Germany\/ Austria \/ Switzerland to the Garda Lake.<\/span><\/p>\n

Around Malcesine are numerous appartments, hotels or camping sites. Inform yourself at the local kite school – they give you the best recommandations.<\/span><\/p>\n

ALTERNATIVES<\/h5>\n

The Garda Lake is not only know because of its high probability for wind. Mountain biking, climbing, sailing or a trip to Verona are highly recommended. <\/span><\/p>\n

BEST TIME TO KITE<\/h5>\n

The thermal wind system at Lake Garda follows a reliable daily pattern from May through September. The Pel\u00e9r<\/strong> (northerly) blows strongest in the morning between 7 and 11 AM – perfect for experienced kiters who enjoy strong, gusty conditions. The Ora<\/strong> (southerly) builds around noon and stays consistent until late afternoon at 12 to 18 knots, making it ideal for freeriding and beginners with a school.<\/p>\n

CAMPIONE VS. NAVENE VS. BOAT LAUNCH<\/h5>\n

Campione del Garda is the most iconic spot – steep cliffs, turquoise water, and strong thermals. However, the narrow beach fills up fast in summer and the gusty conditions near the rock walls can be tricky. Navene (north of Malcesine) offers more space and a gentler wind window. For beginners or anyone who wants hassle-free sessions: book a boat launch through a local school like Kite School Navene<\/strong> or Wind Riders Malcesine<\/strong>. They drop you in deep water with clean wind – no shore break, no obstacles.<\/p>\n

GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS<\/h5>\n

Bring a 9m and a 12m kite to cover the full wind range. The Ora is typically 12-18 knots, but the Pel\u00e9r can push 25+. A twin-tip is perfect for the flat water sections near Campione. If you’re into foiling, the lighter afternoon winds are ideal – Lake Garda’s smooth surface is a foiler’s dream.<\/p>\n

BEYOND KITESURFING<\/h5>\n

Lake Garda is a sports paradise. Mountain biking on Monte Baldo’s trails, climbing at Arco (one of Europe’s top climbing destinations), windsurfing at Torbole, or simply hiking with panoramic alpine views. For rest days, take the cable car up Monte Baldo or explore the charming streets of Limone and Riva del Garda. Verona is just 40 minutes south – perfect for a cultural evening.<\/p>\n
