For some years now, drones are becoming more and more popular in different sectors of our everyday life. But did you ever hear of drone races? If not, then here’s what you need to now about the new sports trend!

Drone Racing: Sport of the future?

Drones already have a long history. Originally they were constructed as weapons for wars, but soon they also got interesting for the police. Nowadays, the technology of the little unmanned aerial vehicles is getting better and better. They are also used for shooting movies or in advertising agencies. They allow the user to have a completely new perspective of the world.

Now the Drone Racing League (DRL) took it to the next level: It allows players to pilot a drone through crazy settings with different obstacles and surroundings. The goal is to be the first drone at the finishing line.

The players wear something akin to virtual reality headsets and thus have a pilot-like view. With joysticks, they control the flight of the drones and try to avoid the barricades. That is why the players geht a real-life experience.

What started as a normal hobby now is a competitive industry. The pilots compete against each other and try to collect as many points as possible due to reaching particular spots. The DTL put on a global series of racing events. The feeling must be overwhelming because of the first person view the pilots have. It’s a high speed racing sport and even if the pilots are sitting, the experience must be very intense.
