SUPler of the month – Connor Baxter

CHALLENGE THE WATER

Connor Baxter

Let’s take a moment and think back to our 17 year old self and what we did back then. Besides attending school regularly, it probably had nothing to do with athletic records. Not so, our SUPler of the month – Connor Baxter.

ABOUT CONNOR BAXTER

Connor Baxter, our SUPer of the month has a much brisker story to tell. While we were spending time studying, Connor Baxter already took part in the Super Ball of SUP, the “Battle of the Paddle”. He won his first “Battle of the Paddle” and was therefore crowned the youngest champion of all times.

And that’s only one of the many athletic achievements this young Hawaiian has to offer.

As the child of a professional windsurfer, Connor Baxter grew up at the beaches of Maui, which is why it isn’t surprising, that he found his way to the water and on a surfboard at a very young age. By the age of eight , he took part in surfcontests and finally got to Stand Up Paddling, inspired by his father, who saw a bright future for SUP whilst Stand Up Paddling was still at the very beginning.

In the beginning, Baxter didn’t really like the seemingly boring sport, but after a while he was hooked by the fascination of SUP, just like thousands of others around the world. A fascination that quickly turned into a passion and no matter if still waters or 10 – 20 metre jawbreaks, there doesn’t seem to be a situation, where Baxter looses control over his board and doesn’t know what to do.

No wonder, given the fact, that Baxter has shared waves with legends like Robby Naish, Dave Kalama and Laird Hamilton as a young boy and even Waterman Kai Lenny is someone, Baxter hangs out with on a regular basis. Just where Kai Lenny, who has, a little exaggerated, advanced to Baxters professor moriarty, won seven world cup titles, our SUPler of the month was also able to take home a nice amount of trophys.

His three awards as the „fastest paddler of the year 2013” are only a couple of the many titles he was able to win so far. In 2014, he was finally able to win his first world cup title and to lower Lenny on second place. This fight for the lead is what keeps Baxter going and fighting for not only the win, but also for new records.

STATEMENT

Baxter is going to be in focus yet another time in 2016 and is going to be fighting against Kai Lenny for the ole position. After losing the world cup title to Kai Lenny last year, there’s no doubt he wants revenge. For us as spectators, the year 2016 can only be good.
