At the end of last year, Stefan Weindl, IBS expert in mountaineering, ski touring, road cycling and mountain biking, was looking for a travel destination that is exotic, warm, exciting and offers a wide variety of outdoor activities as well. At the end of October, he decided to go for Taiwan. Learn more about what the country has to offer in an exclusive travel report. You missed part 1? Click here!

The paradisiac beaches of Taiwan

In addition to high mountains, Taiwan also has incredibly beautiful beaches. These can be found especially in the south in Kenting. Surfers should contact the Afei Surf Shop. Depending on the waves and wind direction, the top spots are Jialeshui or the beach in Nanwan. In autumn strong winds are constantly blowing in Kenting. These are good conditions for windsurfers or kite surfers. However, you won’t find them here, as the sport is not popular. The estuary in Jialeshui would be a perfect spot. In the coral reefs in Kenting you can admire the impressive underwater world of Taiwan while snorkeling.

A culinary adventure

Seafood dominates the menu in the south of the island. A recommendation is the port of Houbihu, where you should order fresh sashimi. The culinary art of Taiwan has surprised me very much. Everyone will find anything he is craving for. You can stroll through a night market in the evenings and at night to explore the Taiwanese kitchen with various snacks. Further highlights are Sushi, Tepanjaki, Beefnoodles and different kinds of Hot Pots. You can find countless food blogs on Taiwanese food on the Internet.

During three weeks I was able to gain a great impression of this beautiful island and put more great adventures on my to-do list. This includes a multi-day crossing of the highest mountains in Taiwan. Another top outdoor sport is river tracing or canyoning. The local canyons are spectacular. If you want to relaxe, you can also visit one of Taiwan’s countless hot springs. So for me there is still a lot more to discover.

Statement

Taiwan has so much more to offer than you can explore within three weeks. I’ll be back.
