Breaking News: The Kitesurf Worldcup is now part of the WKL

NEWS

“Let’s have a tour with only winner” – with this motto in mind, the kiteboarding riders united (KRU) established the world kiteboarding league. We are happy to announce that the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup is now officialy part of the WKL tour.

The WKL (world kiteboarding league) was initially found by the KRU union, a union for professional kiteboard riders. With its aim to be able to have more control about what direction professional kiteboarding is going to take, WKL provides a great solution from riders to riders. Responsibility, enthusiasm and enjoyment for competition are going to be part of the programme.

Worldcup organizers: “We are amazed by this new movement and decided to stay loyal to the sport and our athletes and are therefore very glad to be part of the WKL this year. We can’t wait to welcome kitesurf legends from all over the world at the beach of the baltic sea.”

The WKL tour started off in Cabarets, a small village at the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Luis Alberto Cruz, a local from Cabaret came in first place – above Carlos Mario and world champion Liam Whaley. In the womens competition Bruna Kajiya from Brazil won the title, followed by the Czech girl Paula Novotna and Hannah Whiteley from England.

Coming from the rough sea of the north atlantic, the athletes will experience a climatical change when arriving in Fehmarn, 7.700 kilometres away from their first stop. Furthermore, they will compete on the foilboard for the first time instead of riding the slalom discipline. There is far less strength needed to ride on a hydrofoil. Moreover, the ease of hydrofoiling allows the kiter to go waterborne even when the wind is quite weak.

As a result, the audience will be served with fantastic athletes performance, regardless of the weather and especially wind conditions.
